OLLE GERIS

Olle Geris

OLLE GERIS (bagpipes, voice) has been involved in traditional music from a very early age.

She started by playing the flute, but this had to give way for her real passion, the bagpipes. She studied bagpipes and baroque musette with Jean-Pierre Van Hees in Brussels and won first prize at the Saint-Chartier Festival. She also spent three years as an apprentice with bagpipe builder Rémy Dubois and is now his professional partner, building bagpipes of the highest quality.

A grant from Stichting Roeping (a vocational foundation) allowed her to make a study of all past bagpipe types in Belgium and their link with French models. Altogether she tries to find a good balance between research, craftsmanship and musicianship. She plays with Rémy Dubois as a bagpipes duo, with accordion player/fiddler Willem Schot and a variety of ensembles, including Claude Flagel’s. Recently she has also revealed herself to be a remarkable singer.
