Stimulated by Piet Chielens, director of the Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres, Rans & Flagel have now added their weight to an already impressive series of Peace Concerts.
These concerts had thus far been connected to World War
I, but the Rans & Flagel programme takes the audience
back to the previous centuries. Through song it becomes obvious
that Flanders has always been the favourite battlefield of
other nations.
The programme covers three periods: the time of the 'geuzen'
(rebels against the Spanish/Catholic occupation in the 16th-17th
centuries), the wars of Louis XIV and the Duke of Marlborough
fought out on the French-Flemish borders (18th c.) and the first
World War. Songs in Dutch, French, English and German.
A CD of this programme was released in January 2009 (Fréa Records - Music&Words).
